An Idea Whose Time Has Come
Federico Aonzo and Laura Corsi at the SwissTec Libera in Lugano
For the first time in history, the youth of the world have a new tool to use to change the world: social networks. A tool that could become as powerful as the printed word was in the nineteenth century.
The world’s youth now have access to social networks that allow them to be more efficient at changing the world.
It’s time for the youth to take control of the world, or at least to live in it.
Gone are the days of slowly and painfully building political parties, electing presidents, voting, and then telling the world our concerns and worries.
In the last decades, technology has allowed these ideas to spread like wildfire and have in effect changed the world completely. Politics, the economy, and pretty much everything in between depends on Facebook, Twitter, LinkedIn, Youtube, and a lot of other tools, all over the world.
Young people are the world’s largest group of netizens, and that makes sense if we consider the size of the world’s young population.
In 2010, the population of the world aged between 15-29 was 825 million and a little over a billion if we add the population of those aged from 10 to 14.
If we consider that the world’s young population grows twofold every 20 years (which it does), then we can calculate that the world’s young population will be at 1.35 billion in 2020, 2.7 billion in 2030, and 4.25 billion in 2040.
An incredible amount of world’s people.
Let’s look at technology as it applies to politics. Back in the 1900s, it was not possible to have political parties being built online. But this has changed in the last decades.
The world’s youth is demanding a voice. They want to be able to express their opinions and ideas freely online, and they want to be able to vote. That’s why political parties have started trying to catch up with this new requirement. Young 0b46394aab
